When most people think of Cuba, 'agricultural pioneer' probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Cuba, the largest island nation in the Caribbean, has a had a varied and oftentimes turbulent past which conjures up images of revolution, conflict and cigars. This tumultuous history however, has resulted in a country which has had to find ways to innovate as a means of survival. Agroecological methods have transformed agriculture in Cuba in a positive way which offers potential in the Barbadian context.
Planting a tree is super simple right? Just dig a hole, drop the tree in, then cover with soil. Boom💥! Done! Well not quite, planting a tree is easy to do, but involves some planning and care to ensure that the tree actually survives and thrives.
In this post I outline my vision and goals for the backyard space, go into more detail as to what permaculture actually is and begin to apply those principles to the backyard.
